Our September started with our vacation!! We left Friday, Sept 2 for Charleston, SC. We had a family wedding to attend (congrats Dave and Shelly!) and rolled our vacation into the event.
Olivia did well on our flights, Dan did marginal (gotta love motion sickness and jet fuel), and Sarah was ready to de-plane by the end of each flight thanks to a squirmy Olivia. After arriving in Charleston, we picked up our rental car and headed for some FOOD! Missing lunch due to the flight schedule was a bad idea. Olivia settled right into the room--she explored all over!
Saturday, Sept 3 we met up with Mike, Leah, and the boys. We enjoyed Chick-fil-A and then got ready for the wedding. What fun we had dancing at the wedding reception and just enjoying the company. By the end of the night, Olivia was exhausted!
Sunday, Sept 4 we spent time with the nephews and Uncle Mike and Aunt Leah. We went to the SC Aquarium and saw the fishies, an albino alligator, and Dan fed the sting rays. Then we had some Five Guys--Aunt Leah and Uncle Mike got the largest bag of fries! (I think they gave them bonus fries.) We spent some time at Dave and Shelly's and then had to say good-bye to the boys and Uncle Mike and Aunt Leah. :(
Monday, Sept 5 was a day of touring. Ft Sumter was first on the list--yes, that is one more check off Sarah's goal of seeing all of the National Parks. The boat ride out was relaxing. For those who don't know, most of the fort was destroyed by the end of 1865. We saw a few shells still in the wall that was left. Olivia and Dan tested out the cannons...Olivia took a nap on the boatride back and then we went for some lunch. We ate at Buddy Rae's Shrimp Shack, in the Big Shack. Dan enjoyed some shrimp and Sarah actually had some fish and chips. Olivia sampled their brocolli. Reenergized we headed back to tour the USS Yorktown, which interestingly enough Grandpa K spent time on around 1954. Dan got good use out of the front/back pack and Olivia got the grand tour up and down and in and out of the underworkings of the ship. It was a bit warm, but we enjoyed seeing the ship. Dan and Sarah have to admit that we also just enjoyed being able to relax at the hotel (which had CABLE!, a workout room, and a yummy breakfast).
| Olivia after an early morning, apparently she doesn't realize we need to be up in a half an hour to catch a plane. |
I'm always so impressed with the way that you all handle vacation as a family. So relaxed and easy, it would seem. Hope that this continues to be the case so that you can explore all sorts of wonderful places together!
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to spend time with your family and time together! I especially love the pic of Dan and Olivia dancing, so sweet :)
